Movement explainer
A movement code is a claim that needs context. This guide explains the function families buyers encounter and the evidence that should accompany each one.
What the numbers describe
Commonly associated with modern date-only Rolex references. QC should show winding, time setting, date change and stable running. A quoted power reserve requires an actual timed test.
Associated with modern GMT references. QC should show independent/local-hour setting where claimed, GMT-hand behaviour, date change and hand alignment.
Associated with the earlier modern Daytona architecture. QC should show chronograph start, stop and reset, sub-dial operation and clean hand return to zero.
Associated with the current Daytona generation. Confirm whether the label describes function, appearance or a specific clone architecture; do not assume internal equivalence from a code alone.
Evidence ladder
- Lowest: a movement code in a title with no images or function video.
- Better: a supplier declaration paired with a clear case-back view.
- Better again: continuous function video covering setting and complications.
- Strongest for performance: documented timing, amplitude, beat error and power-reserve tests under stated conditions.
Reliability and serviceability questions
- Is the movement code confirmed for this exact batch?
- Can a local watchmaker service the architecture?
- Are replacement parts realistically obtainable?
- Was water resistance pressure-tested after opening?
- Does the chronograph reset precisely to zero?
- Is the power-reserve figure measured or copied?
What this catalogue will not claim
The catalogue does not convert “Swiss,” “Dandong,” “Shanghai,” “free-sprung,” “clone,” or a factory sticker into authenticated origin. Those terms are recorded as supplier declarations unless an independent test is documented.
Sources and evidence boundary
This guide was reviewed on 19 September 2026. Factory and batch observations are community- or supplier-reported unless explicitly attributed to an official manufacturer specification. They should be reconfirmed against the exact unit and current QC evidence.
Compare a specific model
Use the catalogue review for the exact reference, then request current factory, movement and QC evidence.
